The technical substantiation.

You already know that the entomopter - it is flying vehicle, which should fly like an insect.

Some set a reasonable question, " and what for such air vehicle as an entomopter is necessary? - You see the flying vehicle - helicopter is already created which has vertical take-off and landing ". An entomopter - it is vehicle of a new type, its flight performances still should be investigated. The principles included in it can give new capabilities. At any rate, such air vehicle can take the niche between flying packs and lightweight helicopters.

Such vehicles were being devised from old times.

Certainly, the exact copying motion of wings of an insect practically is impossible.

To make a flying vehicle lifting of the man with use of flapping wings (an ornithopter or an entomopter), - it means to overcome huge inertia of an oscillating motion of wings. It is possible, certainly to try to use powerful engines, easiest and strong materials, but the efficiency of such solution, probably, is very small. The direct oscillating motion for large weights does not decide the problem.

The helicopter yields to an airplane on the power costs considerably. And the flapping flight of the heavy machine like an insect, probably, will be energetically even less expedient. The reason to this will be energy loss on overcoming of inertia of large weights of flapping units with wings.

Now the situation has changed thoroughly. I succeed to find the solution concluding in replacement of a direct oscillating by rotary motion. At the same time the useful flapping motion of wings is saved. The problem of energy losses, which reason is the inertia of an oscillating motion, is removed in this case. The description of the simple device decisive the given problem is given in the patent N2092393, as it was already marked.

The new problem, which has arisen and connected with dynamics of rotary motion, also is removed (know-how).

Now, what is reason origin of lift? I shall do not describe, how there is a lift of flapping wings at insects - it authentically nobody knows, how I know. In the offered device the lift arises owing to drag to planes of wings, driving in air, i.e. the reason is the resistance to a stroke. Such principle uses both - auk and insects. The wings lower by planes downwards (useful stroke), and the rise of wings implements on edges up in continuous rotation (Fig. 1). The resistance to rise of wings is shown up to a minimum that is obvious.

Some sometimes ask, " and whether will maintain flapping wings sufficiently large loads? You see the speech goes about rise of a air vehicle with an internal-combustion engine and, at least, one more man. The rather large moment of force will act on wings ". Yes, certainly, the loads will be great. But it is not necessary to overlook that a rotor with long blades of such air vehicle as the helicopter tests significant loads too. Besides, the flapping wings of an entomopter will be much shorter.

Unconditional, the material of wings for an entomopter of such type should still be selected. For today the rather strong and easy materials are known.

Name "entomopter", instead of "ornithopter" the vehicle has received for external similarity to motion of wings of a dipterous insect. - The Ends of wings describe in motion a symmetrical eight and more precisely mathematical symbol of infinity if to look sideways (Fig. 2).

The soaring in air of such vehicle, while, is not supposed.

The efficiency (estimation of efficiency) given device still should be determined. However last tests with more powerful electric motor install of optimism. It is possible, that the general efficiency will appear more than at the helicopter.
